Welcome to the 2nd episode of BrainBites. In this short video, Mindbridge CEO, Kate Lanz (MBA, BSc Psych) will give you a brief history of brains with help of a simple diagram of a human brain. We start our story at the beginning, the early evolution of our brains.
Way before our earliest human ancestors, our brains were being shaped in ways that affect who we are and how we work today.
Our fastest and most instinctive reactions are governed by parts of the brains that evolved millions of years ago, parts we share in common with mammals and even reptiles. What sets humans apart is our developed prefrontal cortex, this is where we make our rational decisions.
When we react to the world around us, the prefrontal cortex is the last part of our brain to make its mind up. That has some big implications in the world of work and all modern human interaction. Understanding the evolutionary history of our brains is the first step in learning to ‘speak brain’ in the 21st Century workplace.
